A general inspection to leave with peace of mind
The good weather has arrived and it will soon be time for vacations and long car trips. Before hitting the road, take the time to read these few tips that will allow you to make sure that your vehicle has been checked, even the most often neglected parts. Thus you will take the road of the holidays in all peace.
Safety first!
The first thing to do is to check your tires. Make sure they’re in good condition and all have the right air pressure, including (and especially) your spare tire. Do not neglect the correct operation of the jack (lifting equipment). Remember that your tires are the only contact area between the car and the road and improperly inflated tires can put you in danger. If they’re already badly worn, consider replacing them before you travel.
Prepare your car for a marathon
Be sure to check the condition of your engine and the components under the hood of your vehicle. Watch all fluid levels carefully: engine, transmission, brake, coolant and windshield washer fluid. Also remember to check the condition of your windshield wipers and headlights. If you leave with a caravan or a trailer, make sure that the trailer tow is in good condition and that the connector for the rear lights works well.
Is your oil change date approaching? Ask your mechanic to do it at the same time as inspecting your tires and brakes as well as filters and belts – and preferably before you leave. A good inspection will allow you to upgrade your vehicle and avoid unpleasant surprises between two villages, miles from the nearest garage!
