Driving with increased visibility

Drive with your eyes open!

How many times, while driving on snowy roads, have you flinched at the sight of another vehicle? The “I didn’t see it” excuse won’t get you far. It’s up to you to take the steps to see the road as well as possible.

We agree, however, that windshield wiper systems on new vehicles are not always successful models. When you leave the dealership, your car is often equipped with wiper blades that may work well in the summer, but will lose the battle against the snow in the winter.

Remember: you drive with your eyes first. Here’s an interesting statistic: you close your eyes for half a second at 100 kilometers per hour, and your car will have traveled more than 12 meters, which is almost the equivalent of three car lengths.

Imagine when your vision is blurred by snow, rain, slush or just plain dirt. You can’t drive with your eyes closed!

The solutions

First, the windshield wipers: don’t skimp on quality. It’s true that some are less expensive, but opt for winter wiper blades, which are more resistant and, above all, covered with a protective rubber that prevents them from being damaged by ice.
Check the length: our specialists can tell you the right length to choose for your car model. A wiper that is a few centimeters too short will not clean the window properly, and will prevent you from seeing well.

The right washer: You have good blades, but do you have the right washer? Remember, winter is cold. If there is too much water in your window washer, it will freeze, making life even harder. An important detail is that when you drive at 100 km/h, it’s even colder. So get a good winter window washer that can withstand at least -40 degrees Celsius. AND fill up regularly, otherwise you’ll run out in rush hour.

Aquapel: Honestly, it’s a real miracle. This product, applied by our specialists (it’s possible to do it yourself, but we don’t recommend it) will make the water slide off your window as quickly as an Olympic skater on ice. Forget about visibility concerns. Are you scientifically minded? Then we’ll tell you that Aquapel is a fluorinated compound called fluoroalkylsilane that produces a chemical bond with the glass and repels water. No silicone, no unpleasant traces, just water that beads and, oh happiness, ice that is easier to remove in the middle of winter. All this will last for several weeks.

Don’t hesitate to come and see us directly at one of our workshops. ICIPneu Touchette has a team ready to help you make the right choice. Our experts know their products inside and out and can tell you if your tires comply with Transport Quebec regulations and if they are safe for winter driving.
