Your life between good brakes
A car without brakes would be a deadly device. You must therefore ensure that you carry out regular maintenance of these components, in order to ensure your safety on the roads.
For the brakes to respond effectively, it is therefore important to prevent wear and keep an eye on their replacement date. Fortunately, there are a few easy-to-remember tips to help you spot signs of wear and tear quickly.
Basic principle of the brake
First, remember that most brakes consist of a disc located just behind the tire and a caliper resting on top of the disc. Inside the caliper are two plates arranged on either side of the brake disc. When you step on the brake pedal, the two plates come together, which slows down the movement of the wheel, much like the operation of the brakes on a bicycle.
Signs to observe
The most common brake system problems are related to wear. Typically, an indicator on the dashboard will come on to indicate that the brakes need to be replaced. However, there are several signs that can tell you that your car needs brake service. If you hear a screeching sound every time you brake, if you feel a vibration when you step on the brakes, if you have to press the brake pedal harder than usual to slow down you should have the brake system inspected.
When it comes time for the inspection
We strongly recommend that you entrust the maintenance of your brakes to a professional. You can do it yourself, but remember that incorrectly fitting the rotors could seriously damage your brakes and put your life in danger (in a situation where you are unable to stop).
